How much does it cost to advertise on Google Ads in Mexico? Minimum budget and how to calculate it

By JCUpdated 8 min read

What is the minimum budget for Google Ads?

Google Ads does not set a minimum budget: you decide how much to spend each day and, in search campaigns, you pay only when someone clicks your ad. In Mexico a click costs from about 9 pesos to more than 200 pesos, depending on what you sell, and Google adds 16% VAT. The right budget is not guessed: it is calculated backwards from the sales you want to achieve.

What does have a minimum is the campaign itself. If the money is not enough to get enough leads in a month, you cannot tell a real performing campaign from a lucky week.

  • In a single day it can spend up to double your average daily budget, in most campaigns, when there are more searches.
  • In a month it will not charge more than 30.4 times your average daily budget.

With a 500‑peso daily budget, you might see 900 pesos spent on a Tuesday and 200 pesos on a Sunday, but the month will never exceed 15,200 pesos plus VAT.

The practical minimum is different. To know if a campaign works you need volume: aim for enough budget to get about 20 leads per month. With only 4 or 5 leads, one good or bad lead can change the whole conclusion.

How much does a click cost on Google Ads in Mexico?

It depends on how many advertisers compete for the same search and how much a customer is worth to them. Below are the click costs estimated by Ubersuggest for searches in Mexico on October 17, 2026, converted to pesos using the fixed exchange rate from October 16 (18.49 pesos per dollar):

Search Monthly searches in Mexico Estimated cost per click (USD) Approx. in pesos
departamentos en venta cdmx 14,800 0.46 9
cerrajero 49,500 0.74 14
abogado de divorcios 720 0.77 14
dentista cdmx 4,400 1.46 27
abogado laboral 3,600 1.49 28
seguro de gastos médicos mayores 33,100 2.00 37
curso de inglés 22,200 2.32 43
despacho contable 14,800 2.58 48
mudanzas cdmx 4,400 2.72 50
renta de oficinas 1,600 3.13 58
software erp 720 3.86 71
software de nómina 480 10.72 198
agencia google ads 170 12.41 229

These are estimates. The actual cost comes from the auction and changes with the quality of your ad and landing page, the time of day, the location, and how much your competitors bid that day. Inside your account, the Keyword Planner gives you a range for your exact keywords.

A cheap click does not mean a cheap campaign. A 9‑peso click for “departamentos en venta cdmx” competes with real estate portals, and that sale can take months. A 198‑peso click for “software de nómina” can bring a client who pays license fees all year. What matters is how much each sale costs you, not each click.

How do I calculate my Google Ads budget?

Work backwards, using four numbers:

  1. New sales per month you want from Google. Be realistic about how many you can actually serve.
  2. Close rate: of every 10 contacts, how many buy. Get this from your CRM or sales records from the last three months.
  3. Landing page conversion rate: of every 100 visits, how many leave their info or message you. If you don’t know it, start with a conservative guess (3%) and adjust with data from the first month.
  4. Cost per click for your main keywords.

The formula: budget = sales ÷ close rate ÷ conversion rate × cost per click.

Example for an accounting firm that wants 4 new clients per month:

Step Assumption Result
Sales wanted 4 per month 4 clients
Close rate 1 of every 5 contacts (20%) 20 contacts
Page conversion 5 of every 100 visits 400 clicks
Cost per click 48 pesos 19,200 pesos per month
Google VAT 16% 22,272 pesos per month
Average daily budget 19,200 ÷ 30.4 632 pesos per day

What matters more: click cost or landing page?

Both matter, but most discussions focus only on the first. This table shows how much it costs to get 20 leads per month, in pesos and without VAT, using three click costs and three landing page conversion rates:

Page conversion 30‑peso click 50‑peso click 80‑peso click
3% (667 clicks) 20,000 33,333 53,333
5% (400 clicks) 12,000 20,000 32,000
8% (250 clicks) 7,500 12,500 20,000

Improving your page from 3% to 5% lowers the budget as much as getting clicks 40% cheaper. That’s why I do not send ads to the home page: the landing page should be the main part of the campaign.

What else do you pay besides clicks?

Item Amount What you need to know
Clicks Your budget You pay Google automatically, manually, or with monthly invoicing
VAT 16% In monthly invoicing Google adds it to your bill; with manual payments it is deducted from each payment. With a valid tax ID you get an electronic invoice each month
Management What the manager charges If you do it yourself, the cost is your time: review keywords, ads and results each week
Landing page One‑time, plus adjustments If your site does not have a service‑specific page with a form and WhatsApp, you need to create it before turning on the campaign
Measurement Initial setup Conversions in Google Ads and contact source in your CRM. Without this, Google optimizes blindly
Contact handling Your team’s time A lead that is not answered for hours is money you already spent

How long does it take for Google Ads to show results?

Clicks start coming from day one. Measurable results take longer. Before deciding if a campaign works, I give it at least three months:

  • Month 1: clean. Review the search terms report and add negative keywords to stop paying for irrelevant searches.
  • Month 2: adjust ads and landing page based on feedback from real leads.
  • Month 3: compare against sales in the CRM, not against clicks.

If after three months the cost per sale is still too high, the problem is rarely the budget. It is usually the landing page, the offer, or the follow‑up.

Common mistakes that raise campaign costs

  • Broad match keywords without negatives. You pay for job searches, course searches, or people looking for something else with similar words.
  • Measuring forms instead of sales. I have seen accounts that showed zero conversions while the team received real leads, because the conversion was set up wrong. With data like that, no bidding strategy works.
  • Sending ads to the home page. Someone searching for a service wants to see that service, not your whole catalog.
  • Spreading a small budget over many campaigns. A single Search campaign with a few buying‑intent keywords performs better than five campaigns each with 100 pesos per day.
  • Replying late. A lead that filled your form keeps looking and may contact your competitor.

Is it good to start with a small budget?

Yes, if you focus it. With a small budget, start like this:

  • One Search campaign, not a Performance Max or Display campaign.
  • 5 to 15 keywords that someone types when they are ready to buy (e.g., “accounting firm for businesses”, not “what is accounting”).
  • Only the geographic area you actually serve and the hours when someone can answer.
  • One landing page per service with a form and a WhatsApp button.

When that set of keywords brings sales at a cost that leaves you margin, increase the budget or add more keywords. If you are unsure between Google and Facebook or Instagram, check Google Ads or Meta Ads: which is better for what you sell.

What I would do

  1. Calculate the budget backwards from the sales you want, using your actual close rate.
  2. Start with a focused Search campaign, adding negative keywords from day one.
  3. Measure all the way to the sale: capture the contact source in the CRM and set up conversions correctly. If you don’t know where leads drop off, start with your sales funnel.

I run Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns measured to the sale. If you want to run the numbers with me before you invest, schedule 30 minutes.
