B2B Content Marketing: What to Publish for Services | JC

What is B2B content marketing?

It is creating articles, guides, videos or documents that answer the questions companies might have before they hire you. The goal is to be found, understood, and trusted before a conversation starts.

How it differs from consumer content:

  • More than one decision maker. The person looking for you often has to convince finance, a boss, or a committee. Your content must give them arguments.
  • Long sales cycle. It can take months from the first read to a signed contract.
  • Research happens first. By the time someone contacts you, they have already read about the topic, compared options, and have a price idea.

Every piece should serve one of four purposes: attract, explain, demonstrate, or convert. If it does none, don’t publish it just to stay active.

What content should you publish if you sell services?

Content type Customer question it answers Example Function
Price and scope How much does it cost and what’s included? Cuánto cuesta HubSpot en México Attract and convert
Comparisons Is option A better than B? HubSpot, ActiveCampaign o Zoho para una PyME Attract
Process and timing How is it done and how long does it take? Cuánto tarda el SEO en dar resultados Explain
Diagnosis How do I know if what I have is OK? Auditoría SEO: qué revisar antes de pagar Demonstrate
Errors and risks What can go wrong and how do I avoid it? Errores al implementar un CRM Demonstrate
Cases Have you done this before? A project story with problem, decision and result (with client permission) Demonstrate and convert
Templates and tools Where do I start? A marketing plan template Attract

The first two types bring the most purchase‑intent traffic, yet many companies avoid them. “It depends” is not a price answer. If your service varies, publish price ranges and explain what moves them.

Where do I get topic ideas?

From what you already have, not from a tool:

  1. Your sales team. The questions they hear on first calls are your best topics. See cómo convertir las preguntas de tus vendedores en artículos.
  2. Lost proposals. Every “we’ll think about it” hides a doubt you didn’t answer. Turn that doubt into an article.
  3. Search Console. In the performance report, filter queries that contain “how”, “how much” or “what”. Those are questions people already ask Google.
  4. A keyword tool. Use it to measure how many people ask each question and how hard it is to rank, not to invent topics.
  5. Google’s related questions that appear when you search your service.

Cross‑check sources. A question heard weekly by sales and also searched online gets priority, even if the search volume is low.

Which format works for Google and AI assistants?

The same format works for both, and it’s the one I use in this section:

  • The exact question as a subheading, using the words the customer uses.
  • The direct answer in the first two or three lines, before any background.
  • Data in tables, not hidden inside paragraphs.
  • Visible update date, especially for prices or tools.
  • Author with real experience on the topic, with name.

Two recent changes matter. First, Google stopped showing rich FAQ results in Search on May 7 2026. FAQ sections still help readers and AI assistants, but they no longer give extra space in Google. Second, you can now see traffic from AI assistants. GA4 includes an AI Assistant channel (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.) and HubSpot labels those visits as AI Referrals.

How often should I publish?

It depends on how much quality you can keep up. For a small or medium service business, one or two well‑crafted pieces per week are worth more than five low‑quality ones.

Think by service. Each service you sell needs at least three surrounding articles: one about price or scope, one about process, and one about diagnosis or comparison. Link each article to the service page with anchor text that explains what it is. That helps Google see your expertise and guides the reader when they’re ready.

What does a first month of content look like?

Example for an accounting firm serving medium‑size companies. One piece per week, each linked to the relevant service page:

Week Piece Question it answers Links to
1 Price article How much does an accounting firm charge a medium company? Accounting service for companies
2 Comparison Internal accountant or external firm? Accounting service for companies
3 Diagnosis What to check before switching firms Audit service
4 Process What the first month with a new firm looks like Accounting service for companies

Each article can later become a LinkedIn post and a WhatsApp reply the team sends when they get the same question. One piece works in three places.

How do I measure B2B content marketing?

Not by direct leads. An article is rarely the last thing someone reads before contacting you, and measuring it that way will make you stop too early.

What to measure Where What it tells you
Impressions and average position per article Search Console If Google considers you for that question
Clicks from search Search Console If your title and description attract clicks
Clicks from the article to the service page GA4, with a click event If the article pushes toward a sale
Visits from AI assistants GA4, AI Assistant channel If assistants are citing you
Contacts who read content before reaching out CRM Which articles influence the sale
Sales from customers who arrived via an article CRM, original traffic source The true value of your content

Review the first three metrics monthly. Review the last two quarterly, because they need time to accumulate data.

Common mistakes

  • Writing for the algorithm. Repeating the keyword in every paragraph makes the text unreadable and no longer helps ranking.
  • Topics without a real question. If nobody has asked it and nobody searches for it, don’t write it yet.
  • Articles that don’t link to a service. The reader finishes the piece and still doesn’t know what you sell.
  • Publish and forget. A two‑year‑old price article hurts the credibility of the whole site. Update changing data at least once a year.
  • Expecting sales in the first month. A new article can take weeks or months to rank.
  • Generic AI‑generated content without guidance. Use AI for research and organization; your unique value is what you’ve seen in real projects.

What I would do this month

  1. Gather 20 real customer questions from sales, emails, and Search Console.
  2. Choose the five closest to a purchase decision and write them using the format above.
  3. Link each to its service page and track impressions and clicks to that page for three months.
